"It is no secret that Tories in the south want to leave Scotland in darkness, but fixing the clocks to British summertime would mean that dawn wouldn't break until nearly 9am." With all of the sardonic candour that only an opposition politician could muster, SNP MP Angus MacNeil public denounces David Cameron's support for moving the clocks forward by an hour in order to align with Central European Time. And many, many people agree with him.The announcement that the government has backed a bid for the UK to move its clocks forward for a three year trial period has been met with dissenting voices, especially from the devolved powers. With these doubts ringing in Parliament's ears, Cameron has backed the plan with Business Secretary Edward Davey stating that, "as the prime minister has made clear, we would need consensus from the devolved administrations if any change were to take place". So what's all the fuss about? The pro-time change lobby tell of the practica ...

"" Last April the renowned film critic (and believer of films as high art) Roger Ebert wrote the following on his blog: " “I remain convinced that in principle, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say ‘never,’ because never, as Rick Wakeman informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form … [games] are , I regret to say, pathetic. I repeat: ‘No one in or out of the field has ever been able to cite a game worthy of comparison with the great poets, filmmakers, novelists and poets’.” " As a great lover of film I have never really taken issue with Ebert. Yes, he can be a bit bullish and arrogant but I never thought him a man so prone to stupid, reactionary diatribe. He admits to never having played a game and so how does he see himself qualified to make such a statement? Let’s ask the man himself; “How do I know this? How many games have I played? I know ...

“The theory is pretty simple for us. It’s thrilling that there is a separate category for animation and that allows animated movies to be recognized but for some reason an animated film has never gotten Best Picture and I always wondered was there not an appetite? We decided this year we have the biggest and best reviewed film of the year. If not this year, and not this movie, when?” Can Toy Story 3 win Best Picture at this year’s Oscars? Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross definitely thinks so. I on the other hand do not. Firth's nemesis Disney/Pixar do not make kids films. Since bursting onto the scene in 1995 with the superlative Toy Story they have led the way in animated film making, turning child friendly knockabout comedy and drama into something that not only appeals to all, but excels in doing so. The cynical dismiss it as ‘cartoons for children’ but if there is one thing that Pixar has done over the past fifteen years it has been to realise the vast potential ...
